Aleutians
East Borough
School District has
established a national reputation for excellence and innovation in
education. This year, we begin a program that will take educational
technology to the next level in this District and serve as a model
for others. For many years, we have recognized the value of
computers and network access as a motivator for students to develop
independence and autonomy in the learning process, along with
providing them the opportunity for collaborative learning. New
digital tools allow students with many different learning styles to
achieve at their highest levels. The expansion of network and
Internet resources enhances the ability of students and staff to
access primary source material, historical and scientific databases,
connects with experts and instantaneously access "real-time"
information around the world. We believe this new one-to-one laptop
program will be successful in our district for several reasons.
First, one of our District goals is to integrate the use of
technology into the curriculum. Our teachers have participated in
many of hours of staff development programs, including the wireless
laptops in a single classroom setting, and routinely incorporating
network resources in their curriculum and presentations. Secondly,
our students have demonstrated their ability to use technology
creatively and responsibly. Finally, AEBSD school parents have a
high degree of involvement in their student's academic experience.
We have researched this project, planned for it, and know it will be
successful. With your support, we know our teachers can develop the
21st Century skills that our students need to become lifelong
learners and leaders in a global environment.
